ROWAN Redman, 16, an aspiring journalist, saved his sister, four, from drowning in Southend-on-Sea when he was just eight years old.
He said: “She fell into a really deep section of water and began struggling. There was a rush of panic and then the adrenaline kicked in and I just jumped and pulled her out.”
That is a moment he will never forget – and neither will his sister.
Rowan has lived in Harlow for all of his life with his Mum, Dad and sister. He attended Burnt Mill Secondary school and describes himself as “an awkward person”.
Aside from his interest in journalism, Rowan has expressed his love for rugby and his collection of pin badges – which is quite impressive.
Rowan’s favourite badges are those that represent David Bowie, a singer who has had a huge impact on his life. Rowan says “In the 80’s, David Bowe was gender neutral at a time when gender was seemingly pushed onto you.” The reason this is important to Rowan is because he is transgender.
Rowan’s pronouns are He/They. His favourite film is Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and he has also said that on occasion he likes to buy crystals although he says, “I’m not sure if I believe in their healing power.”
Rowan now attends Harlow college and he is unsure on what he wants to do in the future as he says he is very indecisive. However music journalism is the pathway he is planning for now.
